Phase II of The Joint Commission’s (TJC) National Patient Safety Goal (NPSG) 06.01.01, which requires hospitals to establish policies and procedures for managing alarms, is set to begin in January 2016. Educating hospital staff and licensed independent practitioners about alarm system management will also be required as of Jan. 1, 2016. Are you and your organization ready?
To help ensure professionals involved in alarm management understand and are prepared to meet the requirements of that goal, the AAMI Foundation is offering a new, complimentary patient safety seminar on Monday, Oct. 5 from noon to 1 p.m. EST.
This seminar— “Alarm Safety Update: Are You Ready?”—will feature presentations by Ronald M. Wyatt, MD, MHA, medical director in TJC’s Division of Healthcare Improvement; Maria Cvach, DNP, RN, FAAN, a clinical safety specialist at Johns Hopkins Hospital’s Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality; and Sharon H. Allan, ACNS-BC, MSN, RN, CCRC, CVSICU, a clinical nurse specialist at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
The Oct. 5 seminar will build on the lessons learned during the AAMI Foundation’s earlier series, which was designed to boost awareness and understanding of alarms by healthcare professionals and decision makers. The AAMI Foundation also provides a number of papers and other educational tools for free on the AAMI website.
