Under current economic conditions, hospitals need to be more diligent about efficient and cost-effective approaches to medical equipment acquisitions. At Huntington Hospital, the medical equipment acquisition process evolved over several years, resulting in the establishment of a formal multidisciplinary Capital Request Committee. Clinical engineering is a prominent member of this committee, contributing to a solidified approach in the capital equipment acquisitions supporting efficient business operations and leading to a safe and effective healthcare environment. The presenter will share the committee’s development path, current practices, as well as strategies that the clinical engineering department has implemented in support of the medical equipment assessment and acquisition process for the hospital.
