I recently heard that “After a while in business you start seeing people as threats or targets.”
I imagine that this is probably true for a great deal of “business” people. This group believes that “Business is business and love is bull…” and ”Do onto others and run.” For these people, relationships have no business in business.
What a life it must be to look at others with a cautious eye, trying to determine the magnitude of the threat they pose. Planning a strategy to eliminate or at least minimize that threat and establishing a group of tactics to be used against this perceived enemy. I cannot imagine conducting a business life where everyone I meet is a potential enemy looking to destroy me or be destroyed by me.
On the other hand, can you imagine looking upon others as targets ready to be exploited. Now the plan of action is a strategy to decipher how best to suck the life out of that target.
Either way, the objective is always the same: the destruction of the other individuals. The objective only varies in the strategy needed to meet the objective.
It is impossible for me to look upon others as threats of targets. My objective in business has always been to establish relationships. To provide value to others and leave others better for having known me. I still believe that people like to do business with people they like to do business with.
That is probably the reason I’m broke, happy but broke.
