The Medical Imaging & Technology Alliance (MITA), a division of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), released the previously published NEMA/MITA CSP 1-2015 Cybersecurity for Medical Imaging white paper at the 101st Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) at McCormick Place, Chicago, Illinois.
The assembly, which convenes from November 29 to December 4, hosts professionals and leaders in radiology and provides informational lectures and presentations on the industry’s cutting edge research developments across all modalities.
“The significance of releasing the cybersecurity white paper at RSNA before thousands of practitioners is to raise awareness of the need for cybersecurity measures in the medical imaging and radiology industries,” said Patrick Hope, MITA’s Executive Director.
Medical imaging devices, like all computer systems, are subject to risks that may harm the software, hardware, or data security of the device. As imaging systems become increasingly connected to networks, security risks move beyond the system itself to intrusions across digital networks.
In this white paper, MITA addresses how cyber threats pose a significant risk to patient safety and clinical and business continuity in the practice of medical imaging and why a combination of people, processes, and technologies is required to mitigate these risks. This publication also references the white paper NEMA CPSP 1-2015 Supply Chain Best Practices.
