The October 12 Webinar Wednesday presentation “Exploring the Utilization of Security Tools in a Complex Healthcare System” was presented by HSS Network and Cybersecurity Analyst Dylan Winthers and Cynerio Security Evangelist Chad Holmes. The HSS-sponsored webinar was eligible for 1 credit from the ACI.
Winthers discussed best practices, strategies and projects to better secure data in a health care environment. Attendees gained insights regarding the importance of a security program and how to recognize challenges. The webinar also delivered information about the tools for success and an outline of a successful security program.
During a question-and-answer session, one attendee asked, “If we’re just getting started with securing medical devices, where should we start?”
The presenters said, “make sure, as you’re going through the exercise of discovering all the devices, make sure you understand how that will extend to protecting them, because just an inventory, without clear next steps, is something where you know the devices that will be attacked. You just don’t know how to protect them.”
Another question was, “What should the role of a biomedical engineer be in securing hospital devices?”
The presenters said one role is to be aware of the situation and a need for security while another is to ask questions to find as well as address challenges.
The complete Q&A session is available as part of an on-demand recording of the webinar at WebinarWednesday.live.
Attendees provided feedback about the webinar via a survey that included the question, “What was the single biggest takeaway from today’s webinar?”
“The importance of protecting hospital and patient information,” Crothall Health Biomedical Tech David Scott said.
