As we begin Cybersecurity Awareness Month, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH) is reminding you that medical devices that include digital capabilities and other forms of technology can be vulnerable to cyber threats.
The theme for Cybersecurity Awareness Month is Secure Our World.
You have an important role in maintaining cybersecurity. To help keep patients safe, CDRH offers the following tips:
- Identify risks and address cybersecurity throughout the product lifecycle, including during the design, development, production, distribution, deployment, and maintenance of the device.
- Monitor software-related components and services used in or with medical devices. Address issues early and put mitigations in place to reduce the risk of device failure due to a cyber threat.
- Implement best practices for communicating cybersecurity issues. Provide timely updates and easy-to-understand information about how potential threats may impact medical devices
