Jennifer Chester is a BMET II at Harris Health Field Service. She is also a very active advocate of teaching children about science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM). She does this in a variety of ways including her YouTube channel.
Chester recently published a children’s book to promote HTM.
“I have released the children’s ‘Bella’s Big Fix: The Story of a smart girl and her tools,’ an activity booklet and a new webcomic series that is housed on Instagram even though I post most of them on LinkedIn. I’m also working on writing and illustrating the comics as a book,” Chester shared with TechNation.
To recap, Chester is a social media influencer, a children’s book author, a comic strip creator and a single mom.
In other words, she is a superhero!
TechNation found out more about this amazing woman in a recent Q&A.
Q: Where did you grow up?
A: I’m a military brat so that’s a tough question. I have a lot of places I call home but much of my formative years were spent in Federal Way, Washington, a suburb of Seattle. Honorable mention, Chicago because that is where my family lives and Atlanta because it was the first home I chose to live in and I attribute my “growing up” to my time there.
Q: How did you discover biomed?
A: After leaving the military, I found a job posting for a BMET at Davita. When I began to research exactly what a BMET did, I was sold.
Q: How did you decide on a biomed career?
A: I have always had a passion for helping people and technology since I can remember and, to me, biomed is the perfect blend of both. It was a no brainer for me.
Q: What is your dream for Bella (book and comic strip)?
A: My dream for Bella is if she can inspire even one person. My personal motto is “Aspire to inspire before you expire” and I hope that Bella is a character that can inspire not only the future BMETs but, anyone that can take away the message that “you can achieve anything you but your mind, heart, and tenacity to.”
Q: What else would you like to add?
A: I just want to thank everyone for their overwhelming support. When I dreamed up Bella, I could never have anticipated the immense love and encouragement she would receive from the HTM community and beyond. Who knew my love for art, technology, and helping people would collide and create something magical?
