Anyone involved in the support and maintenance of physiological monitors, electrocardiographs, heart-lung machines or intra-aortic balloon pumps will benefit from having a fundamental and working knowledge of the basic anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system. Doing so not only increases – dramatically – one’s appreciation for the importance of these devices but also increases one’s ability to communicate with the clinicians using this equipment.
