The most recent installment of the TechNation webinar series “Fundamentals of Pulse Oximetry,” sponsored by Fluke Biomedical, attracted a crowd with more than 300 people viewing the presentation live. A recording of the popular webinar is currently available on the TechNation website along with other previous webinars.
Pulse oximetry is an important patient monitoring technology based on the simple technique of shining light through a patient’s finger to measure oxygen saturation levels or Sp02.
During the webinar, Donald Gessling, Senior Engineer at Fluke Biomedical, explained why this simple procedure is extremely important, and how it works. He also covered the basics of pulse oximetry, along with the concepts of light wavelengths, calculations, R-curves, and the most reliable way to test Sp02.
Attendees learned the history of pulse oximetry and how the need to test evolved from the operating room. They also learned how a pulse oximeter non-invasively measures oxygen saturation and the ranges of testing that can be performed.
The webinar received praise from attendees in post-webinar surveys.
“TechNation’s webinar series has proven to always be helpful and informative. I am now including other staff members in the webinars. It has been a great training tool,” Tim B. shared in his survey.
“Whether learning something for the first time or dusting off the cobwebs of information nearly lost, TechNation’s Webinar Wednesdays are a great way to stay on top of your career in biomed. These webinars add expertise and confidence to any technician’s toolbox and give you the chance to pick the brains of the experts that lead the way in their fields of endeavor,” Todd K. wrote.
“This was my first TechNation webinar, but it will not be my last. Very educational, well presented and the time slot is perfect. I will recommend it to my co-workers,” Elie S. wrote.
“I love TechNation’s webinar series. The information I received regarding the pulse ox measurements and its clinical use was outstanding! I look forward to taking part in future webinars, and growing as a biomed tech in this ever-changing and progressing field of work,” Tevan E. wrote.
