Nicholas Poirier holds an associate degree in biomedical electronics and currently serves St. Luke’s Health System as an imaging service engineer. TechNation spent some time getting to know this rising star among the next generation of HTM professionals.
Q: WHERE DID YOU GROW UP?
A: Small town in Central Maine
Q: WHERE DID YOU RECEIVE YOUR HTM TRAINING/EDUCATION?
A: Spokane Community College
Q: HOW DID YOU FIRST DISCOVER HTM?
A: While taking some intro classes at our local Walla Walla community college. My mother suggested HTM as an option.
Q: WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO GET INTO THIS FIELD?
A: I have always liked to take apart and put things back together, to do that as a career really appealed to me. Being able to make a career out of it and enjoy it seemed to be the best way forward.
Q: WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT YOUR POSITION?
A: Our field is always changing and evolving. There is always new technology coming out to learn about.
Q: WHAT INTERESTS YOU THE MOST ABOUT HTM?
A: That our position is not a normal 9 to 5 job and that we have to adapt to changing environments to keep the equipment up and running so that our patients are taken care of.
Q: WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT IN YOUR FIELD THUS FAR?
A: I believe that my greatest accomplishment is overcoming my fear of the unknown when it comes to working on equipment I have little to no training on to find the answers and solve the problem to get the system up and running. That can be just organizing support from our vendors or having a more hands on approach when working on the system with my team.
Q: WHAT GOALS DO YOU HAVE FOR YOURSELF IN THE NEXT 5 YEARS?
A: Continue to learn and get training, possibly even assume a leadership role in our organization.
