The 2026 eXchange has wrapped up, but the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation’s work is far from over. Over the past several months, AAMI has been hard at work supporting the healthcare technology management (HTM) community at home and abroad.
AAMI & HOSA PROMOTE HTM
What began as a pilot program expected to attract 50 students ended with nearly 1,500 young, ambitious and HTM-savvy competitors representing 38 states. In June, the best of them took the stage at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
At the HOSA-Future Health Professionals’ International Leadership Conference, AAMI and the College of Biomedical Equipment Technology (CBET) presented awards for the inaugural BMET secondary track for high school students and BMET post-secondary competition track for college students. 67 students – the top qualifiers from state-level competitions nationwide – went head-to-head to compare their knowledge and capabilities as prospective HTM professionals. Medals were awarded to finalists in the high school and collegiate divisions.
HOSA-Future Health Professionals International Leadership Conference’s BMET track was developed through a partnership between AAMI, the College of Biomedical
Equipment Technology and the American Healthcare Apprenticeships. The track challenges students by focusing on knowledge and engineering skills. Students who complete the track are also set on a path toward AAMI’s Certified Associate in Biomedical Technology (CABT) certification, a nationally recognized credential in healthcare technology management that can open doors to a career in biomedical equipment technology.
“At the start of the year, we were told we’d be lucky to get 50 students nationally in a pilot year,” said Danielle McGeary, vice president of HTM at AAMI, who presented awards at the ceremony. “We ended up with nearly 1,500 students competing across 38 states.”
“Now that the track is in place, we need HTM professionals to get involved with their local chapters and regional and state-level competitions to promote the track and explain to students, parents, teachers and HOSA advisors what the BMET track is and why our field is important to healthcare,” McGeary added.
AAMI EXPANDS CERTIFICATION TO SAUDI ARABIA
AAMI’s ongoing collaboration with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) continues with the initial offering of the KSA CHTM Prep Course. This program for Saudi biomedical engineers and specialists is supported by the Kingdom’s most senior HTM leadership, including senior leadership from regulatory bodies, the national cluster structure, the military and security hospital systems, and the leading academic centers.
In addition, AAMI has been invited to the Global Health Exposition in Riyadh this October to sign an MOU with the Ministry of Health, expanding the program across KSA. The first CBET program in Saudi Arabia is accepting enrollments now and will launch later this year.
