The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services successfully completed a large-scale project to transform its Biomed, Facilities, and Supply Chain operations to achieve robust efficiencies using data and an improved workflow at its six hospitals. This required integrated implementations of best practices, benchmarking, data standardization, and new technologies including a new CMMS. The result is consistency across the organization and improved decision making for asset lifecycle, maintenance, capital planning, and budgeting. Through monitoring trends and current status, actions are now focused on those areas and activities that add value, reduce costs and improve the quality of care.
Transforming the way that multiple departments and multiple locations perform their day-to-day work, as well as the overarching strategies for the enterprise can seem daunting at first. But through effective planning and buy-in from all involved parties, the opportunities for improvement are numerous for all. The results are lower costs, more effective systems and processes, and data to demonstrate the improvements to upper level management.
