More than 1,000 healthcare technology management (HTM) professionals attended the fall MD Expo in Dallas to set a record for the biggest MD Expo in the 20-plus years of the biannual conference. The previous record was set at MD Expo Houston and remains the second-largest MD Expo.
Yes, everything is bigger in Texas!
MD Expo Dallas featured the usual signature events with some new events on the calendar designed to offer even more networking and education to attendees.
First on the calendar were the H.O.T. Workshops. These hands-on training sessions provided 4 hours of instruction for technicians to learn the ins and outs of servicing different types of equipment. HTM experts provided the training.
The invitation only Leadership Summit also kicked off on November 10, the first day of the event, followed by a Welcome Reception sponsored by USOC and a Leadership Summit Dinner sponsored by MW Imaging. The next day included a Leadership Summit Breakfast sponsored by MMS.
The second day featured the brand-new PM Training Lunch & Learn, where a complimentary lunch was provided while attendees had an opportunity to dive into the latest HTM insights!
MD Expo Dallas also introduced the HTM Explorers group. This event welcome and introduced high school students to the field of HTM. It provided exclusive exhibit hall access so they could speak with exhibitors and learn about the great HTM industry.
Signature events included the reverse expo, educational sessions and a packed exhibit hall. Networking events included the Young Professionals at MD Expo social hour sponsored by Prescott’s.

The Texas Throwdown party, sponsored by AIV, capped off a successful MD Expo on the last night of the event.
A good time was had by all!
HTM veteran Jewel C. Newell, a senior project manager with Kaiser Permanente described MD Expo as a “community.”
“MD Expo is a place of community, education and renewal,” she said. “It is where you go to see old friends and meet new ones, learn about new technologies and career opportunities in the industry. It is a place where you can see what your next move should be.”
Newell has attended several MD Expos and quickly pointed out that the Dallas show was special.
“This MD Expo experience was phenomenal! The education was excellent, the WIL Lounge, HTM Explorers, and the Exhibit Hall were all amazing,” she said. “What made it a success for me was the education. There were a lot of amazing classes.”
Piedmont Health Executive Director of Biomedical Engineering Ray Laxton applauded the conference and what it brings to HTM.
“MD Expo provides an outstanding environment with numerous opportunities for learning and knowledge sharing. I consistently leave with valuable ideas and actionable information,” he said.
Don Tucker, an area director of biomedical engineering with the Wellstar Health System agreed.
He said MD Expo is “a great biomed industry event twice a year, and an additional event or alternative to the annual AAMI Conference, used for networking, learning, sharing and making contacts with industry colleagues and vendors.”

Agiliti Senior Director of Clinical Engineering Solutions Brian Herty loved the way future HTM professionals were able to attend via free registration and improve their understanding of the field.
“Student engagement, this was a great opportunity for the students to get a real opportunity to both seek new opportunities and to learn more about the industry. I took quite a bit of time to give advice and career path them; I assume many folks did the same as its refreshing to see new folks enter the field,” he shared.
Innovatus Imaging Vice President of Sales and Marketing Matt Tomory said this MD Expo was step above previous successful conferences.
“The MD Expo is ALWAYS an excellent opportunity to network, connect with existing customers and prospects and generally showcase your products and services. Lots of attendees, exhibitors and old and new friends,” Tomory said. “This expo seemed to outdo others in the quality and quantity of leads, attendees and overall energy.”
“I have been attending MD Expos since 2002 and find them invaluable to attend. You have several days contained within a small area with dozens of people you are wanting to talk to. It is the ultimate no-brainer for medical sales companies. For attendees, it is the opposite: you have vendors of all shapes, sizes and offerings to discuss and meet your service and product needs,” Tomory added.
Garrett Seeley a biomedical equipment support specialist-imaging at VISN 17: VA North Texas Health Care System/U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs also praised MD Expo Dallas.
“This is a great opportunity for HTM professionals to meet with others in the field, see new products and get familiar with HTM companies. I highly recommend that people attend it!” he said.
