The WakeMed Health & Hospitals Clinical Engineering team has been recognized by the North Carolina Biomedical Association as the 2026 Shop of the Year.
WakeMed Health and Hospitals Director of Clinical Engineering George Reed shared the exciting news on LinkedIn.
“I’m incredibly proud to share that the WakeMed Health & Hospitals Clinical Engineering team has been recognized by the North Carolina Biomedical Association as the 2026 Shop of the Year!” he posted. “What makes this recognition even more special is that this is the third time our team has received this honor over the years – a tremendous testament to the consistency, dedication, expertise and teamwork of the people who make up this organization.”
Reed stressed that this is a team award.
“This award represents far more than a title. It reflects the work our team does every day behind the scenes to ensure the medical technology supporting our patients and clinicians is safe, reliable and available when it matters most,” he added. “This award belongs to the entire team. I’m honored to lead such an exceptional group of professionals and incredibly proud of what they continue to accomplish for WakeMed and our patients.”
“Congratulations to the entire WakeMed Clinical Engineering team! Three-time Shop of the Year – well deserved!” he concluded.
In reply to questions from TechNation, Reed added: “My thoughts on receiving the Shop of the Year recognition for a third time is especially meaningful because it reflects far more than a single year of performance. It represents the culture, standards, and unwavering commitment our team has built over many years.”
“As Clinical Engineering continues to evolve, our responsibilities extend well beyond maintaining medical equipment, or a break fix model. Today, we play a critical role in technology lifecycle management, cybersecurity, clinical integration, capital planning, and collaboration with clinicians and technology leaders to ensure medical technology supports safe, effective patient care,” he added.
“What makes this recognition most rewarding is that while the people, technologies, and challenges continue to change, our commitment to excellence remains constant. This award is not only a testament to the dedication of our team, but also a reminder of our responsibility to continue innovating, improving, and raising the bar for how Clinical Engineering contributes to healthcare.”
“Most importantly, I cannot say enough about this team whose expertise, dedication, and focus on patient care make achievements like this possible.”
