I attended an interesting class by Sherrie Schulte from AAMI Credentials Institute (ACI). She presented the changes for the 2018 CBET Exam.

It seems like this time of year is when a lot of hospitals get new medical equipment.
There are always small changes to certification. The test obviously changes constantly. The newest changes are from the AAMI side. AAMI has a new website and a new way of doing things. They also have a new director of its certification programs in Sherrie Schlte. The following is taken from an email I received from AAMI. Many of you might have received the same email.
CHTM is a Certified Healthcare Technology Manager. It is one of the newest certifications from the AAMI Credentialing Institute. In the last Beyond Certification article I touched on it a little. It covers two areas: the management of healthcare technology operations; and, the management of personnel. The manager functions include participation in the leadership of the business enterprise.
The AAMI Credentials Institute (ACI) awards certification credentials to health care technology professionals and entities in higher education, industry, and health care delivery.
We have discussed attending conferences briefly in previous articles. There are several renewal points available through attending conferences. There are a few ways to break down conference attendance. You can count each day you attend for a half point per day or you can claim each educational session you attend.
In past articles of Beyond Certification we have looked at the best ways to get points toward certification renewal. We have discussed other certifications and further educations. I talk to a lot of people who have earned their certification and they seem to have a common question. “How do I get points towards certification renewal?
In some of my previous columns I have written about how to best earn CE points toward renewing your certification. We have discussed other types of certification that relate to the HTM field.
I was recently at the AAMI Conference in Philadelphia. It had been a few years since I attended an AAMI Conference. I was surprised how big it is. I’m not sure if I remember it differently or if it has grown. I had a good time there and saw many former members of the CABMET Certification Study Group.
One of the most-asked questions about certification renewal is “How many points do I need?” That’s an easy one. The answer is 15 points over a three-year period. Which usually brings up the next question: “How do I get that many points?” This brings me to one of my favorite subjects – biomed associations.
