Patient with a calm demeanor and excellent organizational and listening skills. It’s almost like our Field Service Engineer role was designed with Amanda in mind!
“The truth is,” she says, “I’ve always been a pretty level-headed individual. I guess that’s thanks to my family and the experiences I had as a kid. When I was ten, we built our own house from the ground up, which was amazing and certainly showed me the importance of keeping a cool head when things don’t quite go according to plan!”
Amanda’s first job when she graduated was as a test engineer with a marine engine manufacturer. But before long, she was ready to make a move. And that’s when she discovered GE Healthcare.
“While I did enjoy my previous job,” she says, “I was looking for something a little more multifaceted. Something that incorporated both mechanical and electrical engineering. Plus, I felt the work I’d be doing here would matter more.”
“While it’s still a male-dominated field right now,” Amanda continues, “I feel every bit as trusted and empowered as my male colleagues. I think the company does a great job of providing me with the right tools, the right resources to get the job done. And while I may be one of the few women on my team in field service, I don’t feel as though I’m treated any differently.”
And is it a move she’d recommend to others?
“Absolutely!” says Amanda. “We set the standard for imaging equipment – and healthcare technology in general. So if you want to work with the best, this is the place to be. But just as important are the support you’ll receive and the resources available to you – both of which are exceptional.”
Turning the focus back to her own career, what is Amanda looking forward to next?
“GE Healthcare offers tremendous scope for personal and professional development,” she says. “The career mapping is great and there are multiple ways you can move around within the business, depending on what your interests are.”
“Also,” she adds, “it’s always clear what you need to do to get where you want to be… in one year… three years… five years’ time. And that transparency is something I really appreciate too.”
