Manny’s Moans – When Your Brain is Full
I heard someone on the radio say, “I’m sorry, I don’t have room for any more facts.” What a great statement!
In today’s information at your fingertips world, everything is on the Internet for your perusal 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Not knowing something is not such a hindrance any longer. Just look it up. On ten million pages of Google and any of the other myriad of search engines, you will find anything and everything. And, any search will lead to other things that suddenly perk your interest until you forget what you were originally attempting to research. Information overload at it’s finest.
So what does that have to do with the above great statement? I will tell you. The ability to search for anything on so many pages causes us to have to decide which information is not only appropriate but also correct. The effect can be threatening to the point that we freeze. We fear taking the wrong action. (Actually what we fear are the results of the action.) This is especially true if you are the type of personality that has difficulty making decisions without complete information. You will tend to research it to death, as they say. Whoever they are.
At some point, we all need to say, “I’m sorry, I don’t have room for any more facts.” Then make the decision with what we have. Remember that a decision is only wrong when we don’t like the outcome and there is additional information that presents itself. (See my recorded February webinar on Climbing the Ladder of Inference-How to Reach a Bad Conclusion on this site for additional information and distraction.)
So go for it. Make the decision as soon as your brain is full. Who needs facts, especially if they are irrelevant and immaterial.
